19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been earned on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has experienced a challenging period, managing just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in particular - caused him dropping out of the top ten and finally splitting with long-time trainer his previous coach.

Now training with his coach and his other coach, he has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - peaking in a tightly fought three-set victory over challenger Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden title following the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface after that period of the previous year.

Victory also signifies the Russian has secured 21 titles at 21 different events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters at once, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," stated ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his past six championship matches, including in the German tournament previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and recurring emotional displays on court had prompted commentators to question if his skill to compete at the highest level was finished.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an improved serve.

He fought back from a deficit in the first set against the difficult opponent, winning 4 of the final five points to take the lead.

Both players exchanged breaks in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his initial tour championship, gained dominance to push for a decider.

The opponent rescued four early-game opportunities in a close deciding set before the Russian broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Suitably, Medvedev earned the win with a rally at the net, with his opponent unable to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
